Coffee, Art and Social Causes

This coming Sunday at le Faubourg’s Second Cup Café, there’ll be more than your usual coffee aficionados sipping cappuccino, lattés, and pouring over the Sunday papers. Between 10:30 and 2:30 in the afternoon, coffee tables ill be pushed aside for a make-shift Atelier and kids will be pouring over something much more colourful than coffee or newspapers. In fact, they’ll be on the floor, making their individually expressive marks on six large 6 foot by 3 foot murals in a collaborative public art project that will then be hung on the café walls.

Now, the café walls aren’t exactly the pristine walls of a gallery, but they are huge and so are the murals. There’ll be other smaller panels available so hopefully all who descend upon the premises get a chance to contribute their “voice,” however messy, to the happening.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a happening without a cause. This public art event is being held to draw attention to the Children’s Art Agenda Project and their newly released 1998 Agenda which will be on sale at Second Cup to help raise funds for research into children’s diseases. more
